Senior ‘09

Senior Picture Time!!! Ashley came to the studio yesterday for senior portraits, and we had a blast! I’ve known Ashley since she was in elementary school, and she has grown into a beautiful young woman with a really bright future. She will be a senior at Clever High School, and I think she’s going to have a great year!

Thanks, Ashley–can’t wait to do the outdoor session!

Fun in the Studio

Today we had some friends in the studio.  Lauren is a beautiful young lady who will be a senior at Crane this year.  Her sister, Morgan, is an aspiring photographer, and we had fun talking photography while we got some great shots. Thanks for coming over, girls!

We sat down after shooting and each chose our favorites–here are some of our picks:

This one was one of my favorites

What a Special Day!!

Today was a very special day. Today I watched (and photographed) a good friend get married. She is a sweet girl who graduated with my daughter. Wow, that’ll sure make you feel old quick! We’ve known Nicole and her family for years, and I have watched Nicole grow up since kindergarten. She played with Sarah at our house many, many times, and took part in many sleep overs (although I’m sure the girls will admit that not much sleeping went on!), and Sarah spent lots of time with Nicole’s family, too. (Keven and Sheila, did you ever think our girls would survive the angst of adolescence to grow up into these beautiful young women???)

Nicole and Sarah were on the softball team together, and we watched the girls endure losses and celebrate victories together. Well, Nicole is no longer a Miss, but now a Mrs. She and the handsome groom, Rob, are high school sweethearts, and they tied the knot today.

If you happen to see Rob anywhere, take a minute to thank him. Rob has joined the military and will be leaving for basic training in August. He will be one of the many men and women to whom we own an enormous debt of gratitude.

After some rain this morning, the sun came out and gave this couple a beautiful wedding day. Here are a few shots from the day.

Jeri and Daniel 7.12.08

Today I had the honor of shooting a wedding for two of the sweetest people I’ve ever met. Honestly. And they are crazy about each other. The minister began the ceremony with some words from John and Paul, ummm, not the Apostles, but the Beatles—”all you need is love”. Jeri and Daniel have that all taken care of!

They also have wonderful, supportive families and a host of friends that came to celebrate their day. My incredibly talented friend Lynda and my uber wonderful husband Danny assisted me as second shooters, so my day was blessed with friends all around.

Thank you, Jeri and Daniel, for letting me capture memories of your special day! Have a great time in Mexico!

And the very, very lovely Jeri:

Here is the happy couple. (aren’t they gorgeous?!)

It was a beautiful ceremony:

Cool Dude

Recently, I had the opportunity to photograph someone who is usually behind the camera. This was a really great experience for me, and I thoroughly enjoyed doing it. Scott Plauche` is an incredible photographer, and a very dear friend.

When he asked me to do some headshots for him, I have to tell you I was nervous. It’s like. . . . well, I’m not even sure what it’s like. To do some portraits for someone whose work I admire so much was just an honor (and it was fun, because not only is Scott an amazing photographer, he is also insanely funny and uber cool!)

He has graciously allowed me to do some second shooting with him on weddings, and I am learning a ton. Check out his website and his blog and you will see why I think he oozes talent.

Thanks, Scott, for crossing to the other side of the camera for a little while!

Such Colors!

I’m not a nature photographer, and this little guy snuck up on me.  I didn’t have the right lens to get a great shot, but I got a shot none the less.  I just thought his colors were incredible.  We saw this little guy at the top of the Smoky Mountains.

It was on the way down from the very top.  Actually, I’m quite surprised that I could get a shot at all.  You see, I really don’t like driving in the mountains.  And I really, really, really don’t like riding in the passenger seat while someone else drives in the mountains.  So by the time we reached this little guy, my nerves were pretty frazzled.  Staring at him, though, kind of made it all worthwhile.  :-)

Makin’ my Mary Kay consultant proud!

When we got here, I unloaded all my “stuff” that every girl needs to make herself presentable. :-) As I was getting ready this morning, I realized that everything I had on the counter was Mary Kay. I love my Mary Kay products, and my consultant!

Vacation Time, Baby!!

After a hectic spring season, it’s time for a little rest and relaxation before hitting the ground running on the ‘09 seniors! The family and I are enjoying some wonderful time in the Smoky Mountains.

We’re staying in a fabulous cabin and having the best time. Here’s our cabin in the clouds:

And here’s a view from below:

And some shots of the inside:

The walk down the mountain is great. The walk back up is another story. I remember now why I never enjoyed PE. Cooper even got worn out walking back up.

But here’s Cooper checking out the cute little Westie that is staying in the cabin just below us.

Every morning when I wake up and look out the window, I see this. What an awesome way to start the day. When the sun rises, it bathes the mountains in a beautiful pink glow that is just incredible. This was just a quick shot–I’m hoping to get some better ones before we have to leave.

Man, it’s going to be hard to leave this place. We all feel so comfortable here, but  we’ll be back in the real world soon enough. We have two more days of enjoying this beautiful piece of God’s artwork, and I intend to enjoy every minute of it!
