Welcome to The Backroads Blog

This is the spot where I'm supposed to tell you a little bit about me. Well, I'm a wife to the most amazing man on the face of the earth. Danny keeps me grounded and yet lifts me up. I'm a mother to a fabulous daughter who is growing into the most unique, spirited and beautiful young woman I've ever met. (Sarah is very much her Daddy's girl). I have a quirky little dog named Cooper who likes pepperoni, long walks, and belly rubs.

And I'm a photographer. There is something about capturing life as it happens that just can't be explained. When I can capture a moment in your life, it's like freezing a tiny moment in time to save forever. Time passes quickly, and memories fade, but photographs keep those memories alive.

Let's get together and talk about what kind of memories I can capture for you. I guarantee we'll have fun in the process!!

‘Tis the Season!!

An extremely busy wedding season led into a crazy busy senior season which has flowed into a insanely busy Christmas season.  I haven’t gotten to post any pics lately–but stay tuned!  I will be posting a BUNCH very soon!!!!

Regina and Cody

A couple weeks ago, I met up with Regina and Cody in Kansas City and we spent a GREAT day catching up, hanging out, oh, yeah, and getting some fab and fun engagement images! These two are a blast to be around and the perfect compliment to each other. Their wedding will be next June, and I can’t wait!

Here’s a slide show of part of the day.

Cody and Kaleigh 6.26.09

I’ve known Cody and Kaleigh since they were in grade school, and they are one of the sweetest and most fun couples around.  The day of their wedding was bright and beautiful, just like the couple themselves.  The incredible heat that day couldn’t wilt the smiles–fun and laughter was abundant every step of the way!

Thanks, Cody and Kaleigh, for letting me be a part of your day!

Emma Grace

Little Miss Emma came to the studio for her very first portraits.  She did everything a perfect newborn is supposed to do–she slept, she smiled, she ate, and, oh yeah, she made Daddy wish he wasn’t the one holding her without her diaper on.  :-)  In between all of that, she was the perfect little model.

Here’s a slideshow of some of her images.

Beauty and Innocence

First Communion is such a special event, and I was thrilled to get some First Communion portraits of Tessa. The beautiful red hair goes perfectly with this little live wire’s personality!!
Here’s a slideshow of Tessa’s portraits:

Here are a few of my favorites from the session:

I haven’t fallen off the face of the earth. . .

This season has been insane, wonderful, exciting, and incredibly BUSY!!!  I have been spending lots of time and lots of late hours making sure all my seniors have their portraits, and as a result, my blogging has been nonexistent.  I’m going to spend some time catching that up in the next couple weeks, but for now I’m going to show you just a little bit of what I’ve been doing:

Jamie–Senior ‘09!

We had intended to do both outdoor and indoor sessions yesterday, but the weather had other plans for us!  The rain kept us indoors, but we made the very most of it, and got some great senior shots.  Jamie is a senior at Republic High School, and will be playing softball next year in college.  She’s talented, beautiful, and an absolute blast to be around!  Thanks for coming to the studio, Jamie–can’t wait to get the outdoor shots!

Tammy + Nate

I don’t think Tammy would mind if I shared this–she used to play with Polly Pockets.  :-)  How do I know this?  Because she used to play with Polly Pockets with my daughter.  And now she’s all grown up.  And getting married.  To Nate (who probably played with race cars, not Polly Pockets).  The grown up Tammy is a beautiful young woman, and she has found a wonderful young man.  They are honestly two of the nicest people I have ever met, and they are engaged to be married in July.

We recently got together to get some engagement shots, and we had a great time!  These two are so much fun, and there was a lot of laughing going on.  In between the laughter, I think we got some great shots!

Bailey, Part II

Bailey came over for her studio shots the other day.  What a beauty, and I still think she looks like Julia Roberts.  :-)

Downtown with Jake

Jake, his mom Paula, and I took a walk downtown to get some senior shots.  We walked around shooting until we really had no light left–and then we shot some more!  :-)  Jake and Paula are so fun, I didn’t realize we had been shooting so long.

Paula, you were a great photography assistant, and together I think we got some great shots of Jake.

Jake, here’s a sneak peak at some of my favorites from the evening.
